We had a meeting at The Lenox Hotel and were asked to choose our lunch from the Solas menu prior to arriving. How could I not go with the self-titled Lenox Club Sandwich?
What made it their signature, branded Club Sandwich? From what I could see on the menu, nothing in particular. And it sat right next to their Dublin Dog, which was a hotdog covered in Guinness braised onions. I didn’t want a hotdog, but the uniqueness of the Dublin Dog positioned next to the matter-of-fact Lenox Club was more than tempting.
Could I get those onions on my club sandwich? Or perhaps The Lenox came with something more signature Boston – a schmear of cranberry sauce, a side of baked beans, or even a heaping of lobster?
Nevertheless, I wasn’t not going to order the club sandwich, so as 12:30 came around I waited with excitement to appease my appetite with something so satisfying.
And satisfying it was: while not the most visually stunning, with some ratio issues visible right off the bat, the ingredients chosen for this club sandwich were A+. It was easy to tell on my first bite down that this club sandwich was well put together, and perhaps what made it self-titled to the hotel was simply the procurement of high quality ingredients to go along with the abundant, over-extending hospitality ever-present in this lodging institution.
There was literally nothing special about this club sandwich besides the ingredients. Hat’s off to the chef and whoever is in charge of purchasing. I could think of a few ways to improve the club sandwich, but none of them had to do with the selection of foods: the turkey, so tender and full of flavor, the bacon thick and crispy, the tomato lush and juicy, the bread perfectly toasted. And the French fries – I ate them all.
This was a great club sandwich that I could enjoy at a meeting, in a restaurant, or from my hotel room. And perhaps that’s what made it so Lenox: an attention to unassuming high quality that can be enjoyed in any setting throughout the property.
